Author Information:
Flora A. Young is a humble woman who enjoys her family, her friends and life in general.
She is the beloved wife (for 48 years) to Rev. John J. Young. They have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. She has furthered her academic actions and received her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Master’s Degree in Humanities. She has also pursued excellence in biblical studies at the Denver Seminary. She has received her E.T.T.A. from Denver Seminary and Certification in Suicide Intervention and Drug Intervention from Ft. Logan Mental Health Center and P.R.E.P. certification from the University of Denver.
Never willing to accept the complacency of the status quo, she has served in numerous community, educational and church organizations. She taught elementary education at Watch-Care Academy and LCF Technical School, as well as serving as a private vocal and piano instructor for 28 years. Her music accomplishments include: Assistant Music Therapist at Park Avenue Baptist Nursing Home, Visiting Gospel Music Teacher at Wyatt Edison Charter School, Visiting Professor of Music at Metropolitan State University, and Soprano soloist (Colorado Choral, Horace Boyer, The Spirituals Project Choir, Billy Taylor, the Elizabeth Arts Festival; the International Association of Ministers’ Wives). She has received many awards for her humble service to the community: An Appreciation Award for volunteering 40 hours a week at Park Avenue Nursing as the Assistant Music Therapist, Past President of the Rocky Mountain Sisterhood of Ministers’ Wives Ministers’ Widows, the Mountain Award in Religion from the African American Leadership Institute, Best Actress from the theater production of “Where Did All My People God?”, the Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year 2014, and the 2016 Random Acts of Kindness Award from Sisters Enterprise. She is the current President of the Colorado Association of Ministers’ Wives Ministers’ Widows, the Chairlady of the Macedonia Baptist Church Deaconess and the Youth Coordinator for Macedonia. She served as the Minister of Music at New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church. Flora has used her literary skills to author and publish the book, LAYERS. For the past 11 years, she has penned the Voice of Encouragement—and Praise Petals encouraging and inspiring others across the United States and Europe. She will let nothing separate her from God’s purpose, mission, vision, and instruction for her life!
